Week 1: Personal Inventories
1. Food
I own a food account on Instagram so others can find good eats too and enjoy it as much as I do. This is how my feed looks like. :-)

These are some product shots I came up with, together with a team for my work. Beauty (skincare) is a huge part of my life and inspires me every day.

I love everything embroided, unique, vibrant. In a sense, I appreciate being daring about your choices.
Week 1: Inputs Map
Schedule. I will be doing constant outputs. I decided to challenge myself to design and generate content for my company's social media pages. It's not in my job scope, I'm not a designer, but I want to pick several design tools up and actually push out designs. My outputs schedule will be bi-weekly.
Week 1: Response to Classmates' Personal Inventories
Nathan - I laughed out loud when I viewed Nathan's video. Not because there's anything particularly laugh-able about it, but because I could almost feel his love for his items. No words had to be spoken on how those 3 items represent him. They just... simply do. The transitions between the 3 items were cleverly done too.

Zhijia - Zhijia's video made me smile. (Partly also because I'm friends with her). But knowing how excited she is about this class (immediately taking her personal inventories video during class break, inserting pictures into her inputs map etc), makes me realise what an overwhelmingly-underwhelmed person she is. If you get what I mean.

Christine - Her thoughts on her personal conflicts about being Asian American really stood out to me. Being Asian myself, I am very proud of my culture, even the small eyes and thin hair. But being born in a Asian-as-a-majority country, I never experienced what she has. I'm super happy she has decided to embrace her roots more, and want her to know I am here if she's ever up for some Korean. *yum*
Week 2: Classmate Discovery
Christine's roots are in Korea. Since she was born in the US, the first arrow represents her displacement from the East to the West -> to Long Island where she resides.

The second arrow represents her daily 40 minutes commute from Long Island to Manhattan. This commute is a big part of her life. In the interview I told her "We should go out!", and she replied "Okay, but tell me at least 1 week in advance cause you know, I have to commute."

The 3rd arrow represents the development of her identity. She's not afraid to be herself.

When talking about her tattoo, "Just do it first, and worry about the consequences later."

When talking about her final project in art school "My school doesn't like us to venture out of fine art. But I'm going to do a street wear runway show as sort of an act of rebel."

The forth u-turn arrow represents how she is re-discovering her roots in Korea, as evident by her desire to do a Korean street wear line, and her hat in her personal inventories.

Week 2: Reading Response
This is in reflection of the article "Sketching: the Visual Thinking Power Tool". I drew reference to my own output project and reflected on the best ways to action it out.
​
For my project, I am aiming to create creative content and build up my company's social media accounts from scratch. This journey is quite challenging, considering I have 0 design background. While embarking on it, I realised sketching is the fastest and easiest way to put my idea into action. Since I have no design knowledge, it was difficult for me to conceptualise something in my mind and turn it into something real. I realised that by sketching, I was able to start from 1, scratch and improve, then eventually reach the desired outcome.
​
However, I do realise that sketching is more for visual learners. I am a 100% visual learner, but I realised my colleagues are able to paint a clear image and clear direction of what they want in their minds, then go ahead and do it, without sketching. If I have an idea in my mind and I don't sketch it, that idea will soon be lost in my mind.
Week 3: Reading Response
The fine line between originality and theft

I was particularly inspired by what Mark Twain said - "all ideas are second-hand, consciously and unconsciously drawn from a million outside sources".
​
As a budding entrepreneur, I remember attending a talk by the founders of Shopback, a highly successful cashback platform in ASEAN. They described their entrepreneurial journey (3 attempts) in which they ripped off existing business models from the West, right down to the logo, name and design (with slight remixes of course), and launched in Singapore. An attendee asked "Are any of your ideas original?"

They responded "I can tell you 99% of the business ideas out there are not original. If you can think of an idea, other people across the world can too."
​
"It is when you've built your business to a substantial level -- that's where the innovation comes in".
​
Thinking about it, doesn't this apply to our constant input assignment too? We draw inspiration from our surroundings. We look an idea and think "Why isn't that in Singapore? I shall bring it in". We look at a problem and think "I'm going to solve this by ___" How often is ____ an original idea? Even if you didn't rip it off from someone else at the idea generation point.

My thinking on the business context instead of the arts scene, just because it's a bit more relevant. :-)

Week 4: Reflection on Moodboard sketch
I picked Amelia Earhart as one of my creators because she was extremely brave -- A value we all wished we had a little more of -- as well as what she presents for all women.
​
One characteristic that struck me most about her was her "Yes" spirit. With reference to the second quote in the mood board "As soon as I left the ground, I knew I had to make myself fly", there was no hesitation, nor doubt, nor fear. It was simply "Yes, I will do it". This really hit home for me because too many people let fear of the unknown stop them from pursuing their dreams.
​
We included the 3rd quote as well to showcase Amelia's retention of independence even in Marriage, which she described as a "partnership with dual control". This once again shows her courage to steer clear from social conventions and live as her own person.

Authentic Narrative: It's funny, the first thing that popped into my head while watching the video was my work. Recently, I wrote a press release for my company. In my research, "personal quotes from founder" is extremely important. I guess this is an example of injecting human narrative to make it a human centered news story. I think I will inject more quotes from Amelia Earhart so my viewers can get a better sensing of her as a person through her thoughts and words.

Slowing down time: What we see is how long we take to read it. I know this feeling when I am particularly engrossed in a scene, but it ends too fast, but I go back and read the same scene a couple more times, because I'm not ready for the scene to end. Or when the descriptor is too short, I can't get a good sensing of what the character is like, or create a vivid image of what I'm actually reading, I go back and read it again. I think this is great to increase the frame duration/ number of frames in my video animation for scenes that are more critical to the plot.

How to write descriptively: I loved this video. I remember reading lots of books as a child. The good ones always paints such a vivid picture for me, which sucks me into the book. For example, in Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella, I'm reading about her purchases right down to the texture of the tassels on a new Gucci bag, and it makes me as excited as her when she's buying it. I think this video is great for when we write captions in our animated video.

Animation Timing: I enjoyed the way he made the video. Funny, light hearted, to the point. I'm not sure if this advice will help me in my animated video. I didn't think of drawing each individual frame out to make an animation, rather than just posting static images, and including ready made digital animations.
Week 6: Metal Reflection
I felt that he really put their end users - the players first. For example, he immediately took out the scene where players have to run away from the flood too avoid getting killed. While that may seem perfectly normal to others, he thought it was too "boring" and added no value to the experience of the players.

I feel extremely proud that I've been pushing myself to post more than 1 creative per 2 weeks, and now have 7 creatives so far! In one of the posts, I even used photoshop to create the foil balloon text from scratch which is just crazy for me - a non designer.
Week 7: Amelia Earhart Animation Iterations
We received feedback that our story plot did not reflect Amelia's creative process very well and were advised to focus on one important creation instead of various stages of her life. So we decided to focus on her journey as a pilot and her thought processes that led her to decide to fly around the world/ across the Atlantic ocean. We also recognize that because she is not considered a "creator" in a practical sense, it will pose a challenge to portray her creative process without making it seem like her biography.

Ideate Framing Story: What does your imagined future look, sound, and feel like?
Over the years, GMO techniques have created a genetic mutation that made plants and animals capable of intelligent behaviours like speech and agency. This made plants and animals of equal standing to man, which resulted in us being unable to consume them. To obtain energy for humanity's sustenance, scientists have developed a way for humans to consume direct sources of energy including the sun, moon, wind, electricity, water, oxygen.
Ideate Message: What message would you transmit to the current population from the future?
Because GMO mutation is an unavoidable occurrence, we want to share an important message to the current population that humankind has to learn to should coexist equally with all elements of nature. We share the earth with these organisms, so we have no right to stake our claim on everything. And we have learned the hard way that we are not the superior race, so we need to play by nature's rules - by respecting one another. To show the state of our world,
